Popular Bengali singer-songwriter Nachiketa Chakraborty is recovering in hospital after undergoing an emergency cardiac procedure in the early hours of Saturday (6 December).
The 54-year-old musician reportedly experienced acute chest discomfort late on Saturday following several consecutive days of live performances. He was rushed to a private hospital around 2:00 am, where doctors identified complications in his cardiac system and inserted two stents.
Hospital sources have confirmed that Nachiketa is now in a stable condition and under close observation. A person close to the artist said that while he has long maintained a disciplined lifestyle due to pre-existing health concerns, he had no prior diagnosis of heart disease. Recent physical strain from back-to-back concerts is believed to have contributed to his sudden illness.
Nachiketa was scheduled to perform in Asansol on 7 November but the show was cancelled shortly after he was admitted. All performances over the coming days have also been postponed while he recovers.
The much-loved singer, known for his socially charged lyrics and distinctive musical style, has not yet issued a public statement. However, fans and fellow artists have taken to social media to wish him a swift recovery.
