Abdul Gaffar Saqlain has shared details of his talks with captain Litton Das and his mother after getting his first national team call-up.

The young pacer earned his place after a strong run in the Bangladesh Premier League. He bowled well for Rajshahi and stood out with the ball. On Tuesday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board named the squad for the first two T20Is against New Zealand. Saqlain got his first chance and now waits for his debut in the red and green jersey.

He spoke to the media in Sylhet and said, “Yes, the captain (Litton Das) called me. I spoke with him. The selector also called me, and I spoke with him.”

He then spoke about his mother. “I spoke with my mother. Since my father is no more, I called my mother first. I spoke with her. Then I spoke with the family I stay with in Dhaka. Alhamdulillah. My mother told me one thing: not to get too excited. There is a long way to go. Since the opportunity has come, try to make the most of it. The rest is up to Allah.”

Saqlain also wants to learn from senior pacer Mustafizur Rahman. He said, “Of course, I have plans. When I meet him, I will talk to him. I will try to learn from his experience, especially how to stay calm in tough situations.”
