Bangladesh’s senior wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim returned home on Monday morning, landing in Dhaka after days of uncertainty caused by regional conflict while he travelled in Saudi Arabia for Umrah, finally touching down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Mushfiq boarded a late-night flight from Saudi Arabia and signalled progress himself. He posted a photo on his official Facebook page, letting fans know he had finally begun the journey home.
When he walked out of the airport with his luggage, the relief came mixed with visible strain. The worry of the past few days still sat on his face, a reminder of how close the situation had felt.
The plan looked simple at first. Mushfiq had aimed to return on Saturday, but the Middle East conflict ripped up that schedule and stranded him in Jeddah.
He explained the situation in a detailed post. “I came to Makkah a few days ago to perform Umrah,” he wrote. “Alhamdulillah, I completed my Umrah and was supposed to return to Bangladesh via Dubai today on Emirates.”
That plan collapsed mid-air. “We departed Jeddah this morning on flight EK0806 for Dubai, but due to the war between the United States, Israel and Iran, all flights returned to Jeddah,” he said. “Now I am at Jeddah airport with thousands of passengers. Only Almighty Allah knows when and how we will reach Dhaka.”
The post triggered widespread concern back home. Fans followed every update, while officials also stayed in touch.
State minister for youth and sports Aminul Haque maintained regular contact with Mushfiqur during the ordeal. Mushfiq confirmed that support and thanked everyone who checked in on him.
