A defamation case has been filed against prominent Islamic speaker and Jamaat-e-Islam leader Mufti Amir Hamza in Jhenaidah, following allegedly derogatory remarks about the late prime minister Khaleda Zia’s younger son, Arafat Rahman Koko.
The case was lodged on Sunday at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Jhenaidah, by Abdul Alim, Jhenaidah district BNP’s joint secretary for legal affairs and Sadar Upazila BNP’s organisational secretary.
Jhenaidah Court Police Inspector Moktar Hossain confirmed that Abdul Alim filed the case under sections 500, 501 and 502 of the Bangladesh Penal Code. The Senior Judicial Magistrate of the Sadar Court accepted the case (Case No–71/26) and directed the PBI to conduct an investigation.
Abdul Alim said, “By making defamatory statements about former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, the family of the martyred president Ziaur Rahman, and his son Arafat Rahman Koko, Mufti Amir Hamza has tarnished our party’s reputation. We have filed the case seeking appropriate punishment.”
