MTB Foundation marked World Bicycle Day 2026 by distributing free bicycles to underprivileged and meritorious female students from different schools in the Dinajpur region under its ‘Swapno Sarathi’ (The Dream Chariot) programme, the organisation said in a press release.
The initiative was organised to help female students overcome geographical barriers to education and facilitate their daily travel to and from school. The campaign aims to ensure that distance does not become a barrier to attending school.
MTB Foundation said the programme was also intended to promote cycling as a healthy, equitable and environmentally sustainable mode of transport for women and girls.
According to the press release, the initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4 on Quality Education, SDG 5 on Gender Equality and SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities.
The bicycle distribution ceremony was attended by Samia Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of MTB Foundation.
Also present were Golam Rabbani and Nazmus Sakib, Associates of MTB Foundation, and Shah Md Abushaleh, Branch Manager of MTB Dinajpur Branch.
The foundation said the programme aims to improve access to education for female students by reducing transportation-related challenges while encouraging the use of environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
