A ruling party MP on Monday expressed strong resentment in parliament over the alleged humiliation of the Prime Minister’s Information Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, demanding a formal statement from the government.
Dhaka-12 MP Md Saiful Alam Khan Milon raised the issue while standing on a point of order during the National Parliament session, presided over by the Speaker.
The MP claimed that the Information Adviser was kept seated at the Delhi airport for two hours despite having proper diplomatic documentation. Although he was eventually allowed entry, Milon alleged, the adviser returned home out of humiliation.
“It is completely unacceptable that the honourable information adviser was kept seated for two hours at an Indian airport despite proper diplomatic correspondence being provided,” he said.
Milon questioned whether any diplomatic failure had contributed to the incident and sought to know what steps the government has taken so far.
He demanded a clear and formal statement under Rule 300 from the concerned minister on what he termed a sensitive matter affecting national dignity.
However, the Speaker did not accept the speech as a valid point of order, stating that it did not meet the required criteria.
He suggested that the MP could submit a notice on the matter if he wished, and it would be considered accordingly.
