Keraniganj police have recovered the bodies of a mother and her teenage daughter nearly 21 days after they went missing. Law enforcers have detained four individuals, including a private tutor, for questioning.
Police said the bodies of Rokeya Rahman, 32 and daughter Fatema, 14, were recovered Thursday night from a flat in the Kalindi Diabetes Bazar area.
According to relatives, Fatema came to the flat of her private tutor at Kalindi Union on 25 December for lessons. When she did not return home on time, her mother Rokeya went out to look for her. Since then, both remained missing under mysterious circumstances.
Family members alleged they went door to door seeking help from police and the house owner, but received no cooperation.
On Thursday evening, residents noticed a strong odor coming from a second-floor flat and informed the homeowner, who then alerted police. Officers later recovered the remains of the two from inside the flat.
The victim’s husband, Shahin Ahmed, claimed he repeatedly visited the house to search for his wife and daughter but the homeowner did not cooperate. He also alleged that police did not extend full support despite his complaints.
Police, however, stated that they had been actively looking for the missing duo since receiving the complaint. The investigating officer said four people, including the private tutor, have been taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of involvement in the killings.
