Veteran singer Monir Khan’s mother, Monowara Khatun, 87, was admitted to intensive care after falling ill on June 20, although her condition has since improved, according to the artist.
Speaking in an interview, Monir Khan said his mother suddenly experienced chest pain on Saturday evening. Family members initially took her to a local hospital in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah, where she received primary treatment before doctors advised that she be transferred to Jessore for advanced medical care.
“Mother suddenly felt chest pain yesterday evening. My younger brothers took her to a nearby hospital. The doctors there said she needed to be taken to Jessore immediately. After being taken there, she was admitted to the ICU,” he said.
The family initially feared that she had suffered a heart attack. However, following a series of medical examinations, doctors informed them that she had not experienced a cardiac attack.
Monir Khan said, “After reviewing the reports, the doctors held a board meeting and informed us that it was not a heart attack. The pain may have been caused by an internal infection. Her blood pressure had also dropped significantly.”
He added that her condition has improved following treatment and that she may be discharged from hospital if her recovery continues.
“She has improved considerably after treatment. We hope she will be discharged tomorrow,” he said.
Monir Khan also noted that his mother has struggled emotionally since the death of his father. She currently lives in their village home with two of his brothers and feels most comfortable there.
The singer concluded by requesting prayers for his mother’s speedy recovery.
“I request everyone to pray for my mother,” he said.
