The Mobile Business Community Bangladesh (MBCB) has announced the closure of all mobile phone shops across the country.

The organisation made this declaration at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) on Wednesday.

Speakers at the press conference stated that if the association’s Secretary Abu Sayeed Pias is not released by today, they will launch a severe movement across the country.

They also threatened to “bring the country to a standstill”.

Allegations emerged that Pias, chief executive officer of Sumash Tech and a smartphone and gadget trader, was picked up by the Detective Branch (DB) of police.

His wife, Sumaiya Chowdhury, claimed her husband was taken from their residence in Mirpur-1 around 3am Wednesday by the detectives. She also said that DB members confiscated his mobile phone at that time.
