Mobile phone users may experience temporary network disruptions on Sunday as the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) conducts a test run of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system.
The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) announced the information in a press release.
According to the release, the experimental test run of the NEIR system, managed by the BTRC, is scheduled to take place from 10am to 12pm.
During this period, some customers using SIM cards without proper deregistration may find their mobile handsets temporarily disconnected from the network.
AMTOB noted that while a limited number of mobile users might encounter network issues during the trial, the disconnected lines will automatically reconnect once the test concludes. The association also expressed its sincere apologies to customers for any temporary inconvenience caused.
The National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) was officially launched in the country on 1 January to prevent the use of unregistered mobile handsets. Through this system, the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of all handsets active on mobile networks have been integrated into a national database.
