The Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) has secured the “MATE ROV 2026 World Championship” in the Pioneer Class at the prestigious competition held in Canada.
According to the press release, the event took place from 23 to 27 June in Newfoundland and Labrador, where the MIST Mavirov team outperformed 77 competitors from 18 countries.
The team secured the overall championship by earning the highest combined score across all competition categories.
The success was driven by the students’ expertise in planning, designing, and constructing their flagship robot, the MAVIRIO ROV.
This remotely operated vehicle was developed to execute complex engineering missions underwater, with specific applications in ocean exploration, marine environmental monitoring, and the inspection and repair of underwater infrastructure.
Organised by the Marine Technology Society (MTS), the MATE ROV Competition is regarded as one of the world’s premier underwater robotics contests.
It annually challenges top university teams to address real-life marine engineering issues through innovation and technology.
MIST Mavirov team is composed of students from the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering. Under the guidance of Captain Mohammad Moinul Hasan, the team includes 11 core members and 24 general members.
The international achievement was made possible through the support of Gold Sponsors Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) and Pubali Bank Limited PLC.
Additionally, the team received significant support from Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Coast Guard.
