The body of a tourist who went missing after a boat capsized in the Barapathar area of Thanchi upazila was recovered on Sunday morning, 36 hours after the incident.
The deceased was identified as Jawad ul Islam Mahian, 24.
The 38th Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bolipara zone, confirmed the recovery.
According to locals, the body surfaced near the riverbank beside the BGB Tindumukh Camp in the Raja Pathar area around 7:30am on Sunday.
BGB members, with assistance from the Fire Service and Civil Defence, recovered the body and took it to the Tindumukh BGB camp.
The accident occurred around 5:30pm on Friday when an engine-powered boat carrying Mahian and his companions sank while travelling from Tindu.
While the other passengers swam to safety, Mahian was swept away by the current, said Pear Mohammad, station officer of Thanchi Fire Service.
An eight-member rescue team, including a three-member diving unit from Chattogram and five personnel from the Thanchi Fire Service, searched for Mahian on Saturday but was initially unable to locate him.
Police said legal procedures are underway to hand over the body to his family.
