Mirza Abbas, the political adviser to the Prime Minister, has called out his political opponents, including Nasiruddin Patwary and NCP leaders, for spreading false accusations.
In a speech delivered on Friday, Mirza Abbas, also a senior member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, stated that falsely defaming an individual is a major sin and urged others to refrain from such behaviour.
He made these remarks while addressing a prayer and Iftar gathering organised by the Ramna Thana unit BNP at Siddheswari Girls’ School in Dhaka.
“Our elders teach us that lying is a great sin, and falsely accusing someone is an even greater one. Please stay away from this sin and keep us away from it as well,” he said.
The BNP leader also criticised the recent election results in his constituency, claiming that his rivals would not have secured as many votes without engaging in vote manipulation. “In one ward of Dhaka-8, no one can name a relative who voted for them. But I can openly say who voted for me,” Mirza Abbas stated.
He further claimed that his party had to guard several polling stations overnight to ensure votes were protected.
“If we hadn’t done this, they would have rigged the election entirely. The way they engineered the election was unusual and forced upon the BNP,” he added.
The BNP leader also stressed that his constituency had never experienced defeat under his leadership.
“Everyone knows elections were not held during the Awami League’s rule,” he said. “The number of votes I received in each area is not for others to question. I have friends and family in this area, so I don’t lack votes.”
He went on to question how his rivals managed to secure such a large number of votes without election engineering, stating, “This is my question to the nation today. I can prove that you have rigged the elections.”
The event was attended by BNP leaders from both the city and local levels, with Ramna Thana unit BNP Convener Ashraful Islam presiding over the gathering.
