Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has described the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination results as “beautiful,” dismissing suggestions that the performance was poor.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday following the official release of the results, the Minister responded to queries from journalists regarding the decline in success rates. “Why are you calling it a bad result? The result is beautiful,” he remarked.
He further commented that while one can sing freely from the heart, marks cannot be simply given away on examination scripts.
This year’s average pass rate for the SSC and equivalent examinations has fallen to 62.25 per cent, marking the lowest success rate recorded in the last 19 years.
Addressing the marking process, the education minister announced that students will now have the opportunity for a thorough re-evaluation of their marks. He stated that if any student is found to have been given incorrect marks or denied the marks they deserve, their answer scripts will be re-evaluated by a review committee.
“Every student will be given the marks they deserve,” he assured.
Milon explained that under the previous system, a “re-examination” only involved checking the tabulation sheets. There was formerly no provision to re-examine the actual answer scripts to verify if a teacher had awarded the appropriate marks.
In a message to the candidates, Mahdi Amin, Adviser to the prime minister on Education, urged those who did not achieve their expected results not to be disheartened.
“This is not the last opportunity in life. The government will always stand by those who did not get their desired results,” the adviser said. He added that the government aims to ensure that these students can overcome all obstacles to achieve success in the future.
