A Dhaka court on Tuesday fixed September 20 for the submission of the investigation report in a corruption case filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 16 others over alleged irregularities in awarding a toll collection contract for the Meghna-Gomti Bridge.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to submit its probe report on the scheduled date.
The ACC filed the case on 12 October, 2025, accusing 17 individuals of causing an estimated loss of Tk309 crore to the state through abuse of power and alleged irregularities in the contract award process.
Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the accused include former ministers Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Obaidul Quader, Anisul Huq and MA Mannan. Others named in the case are MAN Siddique, Md Faruq Jalil, Mohammad Shafiqul Karim, Md Firoz Iqbal, Ibne Alam Hasan, Md Aftab Hossain Khan, Md Abdus Salam, Munir Uz Zaman Chowdhury, Selina Chowdhury and Ikram Iqbal.
According to the case statement, Computer Network Systems Ltd (CNS) was given the toll collection contract in 2016 through a single-source procurement process, bypassing competitive bidding procedures.
Investigators alleged that the company received a five-year contract under which it was entitled to a service charge equivalent to 17.75 per cent of the total toll revenue collected from the bridge.
As a result, CNS reportedly received more than Tk489 crore in payments during the contract period, an amount the ACC claims was significantly higher than what had been paid under comparable toll collection arrangements.
The anti-graft body alleges that the contract approval process led to substantial financial losses for the government and is examining the role of the accused in the decision-making process.
