Md Reza Hasan has been appointed as the new deputy commissioner (DC) of Sylhet district, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday.
The notification, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Ismail Hossain, stated that the order will take immediate effect in the public interest.
Md Reza Hasan had been serving as the DC for Cumilla prior to this latest appointment.
In the same notification, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Rozy Akhter, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Cumilla.
The appointment comes after Sarwoer Alam was recalled from his post as Sylhet DC on 21 June following controversy over the donation money of Hazrat Shahjalal’s (RA) shrine.
He was attached to the Ministry of Public Administration as Deputy Secretary. Since then, Additional District Magistrate Pinky Saha had been serving as the acting DC.
The new appointments are expected to bring administrative continuity to both districts. The government has yet to comment on the policy direction for the new DCs.
