MASTUL Foundation, a leading humanitarian organisation in Bangladesh, has received official approval from the government to conduct the burial and funeral rites of unclaimed (unidentified) bodies.
The authorisation, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, recognises the foundation’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian causes.
The approval marks a significant milestone for MASTUL Foundation, which has played a critical role in funeral services during the nation’s most challenging times, according to a press release.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many were reluctant to handle the deceased, the foundation’s volunteers performed the last rites for more than 3,000 individuals across the country.
With the government mandate, MASTUL Foundation is now authorised to systematically manage ritual bathing (ghusl), shrouding (kafan), and burial of unidentified deceased persons, ensuring dignified farewells in accordance with religious and state protocols.
Commenting on the achievement, Kazi Reaz Rahman, founder and executive director of MASTUL Foundation, said, “This approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs is a profound responsibility. We have always performed this work solely for the satisfaction of Almighty Allah and out of our commitment to humanity. Every human being, even if unidentified, deserves a respectful burial. With this official recognition, we are more determined than ever to continue this selfless service with transparency and devotion.”
MASTUL Foundation is also known for its diverse social initiatives, including running orphanages and schools, and providing emergency relief services. Under the new government authorisation, the foundation plans to enhance its logistics, including dedicated ambulances and specialised burial teams, to provide round-the-clock service.
