The body of a man was recovered from the Chengi River in Khagrachhari on Friday, four days after he was swept away by strong currents.
The deceased was identified as Tapanodoy Chakma, 56, an office assistant at Perachhara High School.
His body was found in the river near Ganjpara area of the district town in the morning.
Family members said he went missing on Tuesday while collecting firewood from the river beside his house and was swept away by the strong current.
Despite extensive searches by relatives and locals, he could not be traced at the time.
His body was later recovered from beneath sand in the river at South Ganjpara area after four days.
Perachhara High School Head Teacher Bimbisar Khisa said Tapanodoy lived in Jamtali Juboraj Para and went missing while collecting firewood near his home.
Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kai Kislu said search efforts had been ongoing since he went missing.
Police recovered the body on Friday morning after being informed by locals, he said, adding that legal procedures are under way.
