Manchester United’s winning run under Michael Carrick came to an end on Tuesday as a stoppage-time equaliser from Benjamin Šeško earned a 1–1 draw at West Ham United, while Tottenham’s struggles deepened with a damaging home defeat and Chelsea surrendered another two-goal lead.
United had won four straight Premier League matches since Carrick took charge, prompting growing calls for the former midfielder to be given the job permanently. However, West Ham disrupted their rhythm and denied them a fifth consecutive victory.
Tomáš Souček fired the hosts in front early in the second half after meeting Jarrod Bowen’s cross. United struggled to rediscover their attacking fluency but rescued a point at the death when Šeško flicked home Bryan Mbeumo’s delivery in stoppage time.
“We were definitely not at our best,” Carrick said. “We lacked sharpness, but the spirit was there and we’ll take the point and move on.”
The draw keeps United fourth in the table, helped by Chelsea’s failure to capitalise at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea let lead slip again
Chelsea’s push for Champions League qualification stalled as they threw away a 2–0 lead to draw 2–2 with Leeds United.
João Pedro opened the scoring before Cole Palmer doubled the advantage from the penalty spot, putting the Blues on course for a fifth consecutive league win under Liam Rosenior. However, Moisés Caicedo’s foul on Jayden Bogle handed Lukas Nmecha a penalty, allowing Leeds back into the contest.
Noah Okafor then levelled the scores after a goalmouth scramble, pushing Leeds further clear of the relegation zone. Palmer missed a golden chance to snatch victory deep into stoppage time.
“We gifted Leeds a point,” said Rosenior. “If we want to improve, we have to stay switched on for 90 minutes.”
Chelsea remain fifth, still outside the Champions League places.
Pressure mounts on Frank as Spurs slump
Tottenham’s crisis worsened after a 2–1 home defeat to Newcastle United, leaving them just five points above the relegation zone in 16th place.
Spurs supporters vented their frustration at head coach Thomas Frank, chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” after their side failed to win for the 11th time in 13 home league games.
Malick Thiaw gave Newcastle a deserved lead in first-half stoppage time, Archie Gray briefly drew Tottenham level after the break, but Jacob Ramsey quickly restored Newcastle’s advantage to seal only their third away league win of the season.
“We know we’re not in a good position,” Frank said. “The frustration is understandable. It’s part of the job.”
Everton suffer setback
Everton’s hopes of European qualification were dented as Bournemouth came from behind to secure a 2–1 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Goals from Rayan and Amine Adli overturned Everton’s lead, lifting Bournemouth level on points with the Toffees in eighth place and dealing a blow to Everton’s ambitions of continental football for the first time since 2017.
