A tea seller named Ismail Hossain (33) was killed in a mugger’s knife attack in the Kotwali area of Chattogram city.

The incident occurred around 2am on Thursday in front of the Zila Parishad Market.

Ismail was originally from Lakshmipur Sadar upazila. He worked as a mobile tea seller in Chattogram city and lived in the Firingi Bazar area.

Police said Ismail was cycling towards Firingi Bazar at night when three muggers blocked his path on the Kotwali-bound road opposite the Zila Parishad building. At one point, they stabbed him in the chest and fled.

Patrolling police officers later found him lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

Constable Mahmud Hossain of Kotwali Police Station said they quickly rescued Ismail and took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors declared him dead.

Sohel Rana, assistant in-charge of the CMCH police outpost, said, “There were stab marks on the victim’s hand and chest.”

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Karim said the muggers fled the scene and no one has been arrested yet. He said operations are underway to uncover the motive and arrest those involved.

Ismail’s body has been kept at the CMCH morgue for autopsy.
