A highway police constable was killed after a goods-laden truck overturned onto a police pickup van in Dariakandi bus stand area of Kuliarchar upazila, Kishoreganj early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Parvez Mia, 30, a constable of Bhairab Highway Police Station.
Bhairab Highway Police Station Officer-in-charge Sumon Kumar Chowdhury confirmed the incident.
According to police and witnesses, a Bhairab Highway Police team was on its way to respond to a CNG auto-rickshaw accident when they stopped their pickup beside Bhairab-Kishoreganj regional road to inflate a tire.
At that time, a truck carrying rice husks lost control while trying to give way to a CNG auto-rickshaw and overturned onto the stationary police vehicle.
Parvez, who was inside the pickup, was trapped beneath the truck and died on the spot.
Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel, with assistance from local residents and police, recovered the body.
The OC Sumon said legal proceedings are underway.
