A mobile court on Thursday fined an alleged middleman Tk200 and sentenced him to three months’ simple imprisonment as part of a drive to curb broker influence at the Land Acquisition (LA) section in Patuakhali.
The convicted individual, identified as Siddiq Mridha, was detained after being found inside the surveyors’ room of the LA section around 5pm.
According to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shaheed Hossain Chowdhury, Mridha failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence there and later admitted to engaging in irregular activities during questioning.
Following the admission, the mobile court imposed a fine of Tk200 and awarded three months’ simple imprisonment. He was subsequently sent to jail.
The deputy commissioner confirmed the development through a social media post, stating that the action was taken to prevent the activities of broker networks and ensure transparency in the land acquisition compensation process.
