A top-listed criminal was arrested and a foreign pistol, a magazine, and two bullets were seized from his residence in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur on Friday night.
The arrestee was identified as Ariful Haque alias Mithu, 41, of Mahajanpur village in Mujibnagar, according to the Gangni RAB camp.
Around 8am on Saturday, RAB said that a joint operation was conducted by the Meherpur Army Camp and Gangni RAB late Friday night. The operation was based on intelligence information.
During the operation, Mithu was arrested from his residence at Bazarpara. The pistol, magazine, and bullets were seized from his house, RAB said.
RAB-12 CPC-3 Company Commander Mamun Khan said Mithu is a top-listed criminal in the district. He is accused of extortion, rape, explosive-related offences, and other subversive activities.
In protest against his activities, local residents had organised rallies and demonstrations in 2023 demanding his arrest.
Rab official Mamun also said Mithu was handed over to Mujibnagar Police Station for legal action. A case under the Arms Act is currently being processed.
