Police arrested a man and recovered 70 stolen and damaged mobile phones during a checkpoint operation in the capital’s Rampura area on Thursday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Mir Md Mosharraf Khan, 40.
According to Rampura Police Station, a police team conducting a routine checkpoint in front of Gate No. 3 of the Bangladesh Television (BTV) building stopped Mosharraf on suspicion at around 2:55 pm.
A search of his belongings led to the recovery of 38 stolen mobile phones of various brands, along with 11 handsets without back covers and 21 mobile phones without displays.
During preliminary interrogation, Mosharraf allegedly told police that he had collected the stolen phones from different parts of Gazipur and brought them to Dhaka to sell at various mobile phone markets across the city.
Police said a case has been filed with Rampura Police Station in connection with the recovery and legal proceedings against the accused are underway.
