The Department of Narcotics Control in a drive arrested a man and seized 46kg hemp, 700 Yaba tablets from a pickup van loaded with puffed rice in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Wednesday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Sohel Rana.
The information was confirmed in a press release signed by Deputy Director Shamim Ahmed of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC).
According to officials, acting on a tip-off, a DNC team carried out the raid around 9am on the Dhaka-Cumilla highway in front of New Pubali Matsya Bhandar in Jatrabari.
During the operation, officers recovered the narcotics hidden beneath 23 sacks of puffed rice on the pickup.
During preliminary interrogation, Sohel Rana reportedly admitted that he was transporting the drugs to Dhaka from a border area in Cumilla.
Officials said he had long been involved in similar smuggling activities.
A case has been filed against him with Jatrabari Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
