Police recovered the body of an unidentified man with his mouth wrapped in Scotch tape from Dhaka Elevated Expressway in the capital on Friday morning.
The deceased, who was wearing a blue shirt and a lungi resembling the uniform worn by CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers, was estimated to be between 35 and 50 years old.
Officers from Banani Police Station recovered the body at around 8:45am.
However, police have confirmed the identity of the deceased as a CNG driver Ismail Hossain from Jamalpur Sadar Bari.
Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faridul Islam said the man was wearing blue clothing similar to a CNG driver’s uniform and had white tape wrapped around his mouth.
“We suspect that miscreants killed him and dumped the body there sometime during the night or in the early hours of the morning,” he said.
Police sources said they initially suspected that the victim could be a CNG driver based on his clothing, but his identity remains unconfirmed.
The recovery of the body from the elevated expressway has raised questions, as the entire route is monitored by CCTV cameras. Police are investigating how the body was brought to the area and dumped despite the surveillance system.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
