Locals caught a man on allegations of attempting to rape a third-grade student by luring her with the promise of lychees in Sadullapur, Gaibandha.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon. The man, Imran, 30, is the son of Imdadul Haque Bepari in Sadullapur Upazila.
According to the student’s relatives, Imdadul had purchased a lychee orchard and Imran was responsible for guarding the orchard. As the student was passing the orchard, Imran lured her with the promise of lychees and attempted to rape her.
Hearing the child’s screams, her grandfather, who was working nearby, rushed to the scene, prompting Imran to release her. Locals later caught him at night and took him to the Shahapara Union Parishad.
Shahapara Union Parishad Chairman Md Moshiur Rahman Sarker said, “I, along with the District BNP Organising Secretary, Judge Court PP, and police, came and released Imran after taking a written undertaking. He will not do such work again.”
When asked to provide the names of those involved in the release, he ended the call. His mobile phone was then found switched off after multiple further attempts to contact him.
Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said, “I heard about the incident; it was eve-teasing. We have not received any complaint.”
