Senior Joint Secretary General of Gono Odhikar Parishad Hasan Al Mamun has been appointed as the acting secretary general of the party.
Mamun himself confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Sunday morning.
After assuming the responsibility, Hasan Al Mamun said on Facebook that he was given the role in line with the party constitution and with the consent of all, adding that he would work to earn the trust of the people by rising above internal criticism during the current challenging period.
Referring to past movements, he said the 2018 quota reform movement led to the abolition of quotas in first- and second-class government jobs and later evolved into a broader political movement in 2024.
He expressed hope that, with the prayers and support of the people and party leaders and activists, Gono Odhikar Parishad would be taken to a position of public trust.
The post of secretary general fell vacant after former secretary general Rashed Khan recently resigned and joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, following which Hasan Al Mamun took over the responsibility.
Hasan Al Mamun was the convener of the 2018 quota reform movement.
