The upcoming revival of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ will move forward without one of its original stars, as Erik Per Sullivan has chosen not to reprise his role as Dewey.
According to co-star Jane Kaczmarek, who played Lois, the former child actor turned down lucrative offers to return, opting instead to focus on his studies at Harvard University. She described him as an exceptional student, noting his commitment to academic life.
The character of Dewey will now be portrayed by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark in the revival, titled ‘Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair’.
The four-episode series brings back much of the original cast, including Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, Bryan Cranston as Hal and Justin Berfield and Christopher Kennedy Masterson as Reese and Francis.
The new storyline sees Malcolm drawn back into family chaos when his parents organise a 40th anniversary celebration. The revival will also introduce new characters, including Malcolm’s daughter and partner.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is set to premiere on April 10 on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ internationally.
