Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) has elected Kaler Kantho Dhaka University Correspondent Md Manjur Hossain Mahi as president and Star News University Correspondent Liton Islam as general secretary.

The DUJA Executive Committee Election-2026 was held in a peaceful and festive atmosphere at the organisation’s office at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University, a statement said.

Voting began at 11:50am and ended at 2:50pm, with the results announced at 3:00pm after vote counting.

Former DUJA President and Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan served as Chief Election Commissioner.

Assistant Election Commissioners included former DUJA General Secretary and Prothom Alo Special Correspondent Riadul Karim, former General Secretary and The Daily Ittefaq Senior Reporter Saidur Rahman, DUJA President Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi, and General Secretary Mahadi Hasan.

A total of nine posts, including president and general secretary, were contested in the election.

Of the 41 voters, 31 cast their votes directly while 10 voted through postal ballots.

Md Manjur Hossain Mahi secured 30 votes to become president, while Liton Islam received 24 votes to win the post of general secretary.

Others elected to the committee are: Vice-President Mahathir Mohammad (The Daily Star), Joint General Secretary Md. Rahad Uddin (Daily Janakantha), Office Secretary HM Khalid Hasan (Desh Rupantor), Treasurer Naimur Rahman Imon (The Daily Observer), and Executive Members Md Borhan Uddin (Channel 24), Md Shamsuddoja Nawab (Dhaka Tribune), and Mohammad Sahedul Islam (TIMES of Bangladesh).

Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan congratulated the newly elected committee, saying DUJA has always upheld democratic practice.

He expressed satisfaction that the election was held in a festive environment and hoped the new leadership would work together for the welfare of students.
