Chandpur-4 Faridganj Member of Parliament-elect MA Hannan has said he will not take the parliamentary oath until the BNP formally reinstates him.
He made the announcement at a press conference at Faridganj Press Club on Saturday, saying he would not be sworn in unless the BNP officially takes him back into the party.
On 21 January, a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi cancelled his primary membership and all party posts for defying central directives and contesting the election as an independent candidate.
Earlier, on 27 December, the district BNP suspended organisational activities of the Faridganj upazila and municipal units, including the convening committee led by Hannan.
Despite the expulsion, he said he has been involved in BNP politics since his student days and remains committed to the ideals of former president Zia-Ur-Rahman.
He alleged that a vested quarter had previously worked to cancel his party nomination and attempted similar moves in the recent election.
He said he won as a people’s candidate with support from grassroots activists and ordinary voters.
Rejecting allegations of vote rigging as baseless, he described the Faridganj polls as transparent and peaceful.
He urged the administration to take strict legal action over post-election violence and the spread of misinformation.
He called on his supporters to maintain peace and discipline and warned of zero tolerance for any breach of the law.
He expressed regret for not being able to meet voters immediately after the polls due to illness and a recent cardiac procedure.
He said he plans to begin public engagement in the constituency during Ramadan after completing initial parliamentary formalities.
