Bangladesh Met office has issued a warning as a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to turn into a depression within the next 24 hours. The system is likely to bring moderate to heavy rain in Dhaka and other parts of the country until September 30.
In its special bulletin, the met office explained that the low-pressure system had crossed the northern-western Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, and is now transforming into a land depression. The system is expected to move west-northwestward, weakening as it progresses.
The department has also warned that active monsoon winds could lead to persistent rain in other regions of the country, particularly in Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Rajshahi. These areas may experience waterlogging and flooding in low-lying regions.
The met office has urged the public to stay cautious during this period of heavy rainfall, as the situation may lead to roadblocks, traffic congestion, and delays in daily commuting. Furthermore, there is a possibility of lightning and strong winds, which could cause power outages and other accidents.
