Locals beat a man accused of raping a five‑year‑old child before handing him over to police in Natore’s Sadar upazila.
Sadar Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Mansur Rahman confirmed the arrest Wednesday. The man, identified as Shariful Islam, is a fuchka seller.
According to local sources, Shariful lured the child from a crop field, took her to a grass field and raped her. Family members later admitted the victim to a local clinic.
As news spread in the evening, residents surrounded Shariful’s house, tied him to a tree and beat him. Police then detained him and took him to the station.
OC Mansur said the child has been admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment and that legal proceedings are underway.
