Left Democratic Alliance has demanded exemplary punishment for Fazor Ali and his accomplices, who have been accused in the brutal rape case in Muradnagar, Cumilla.
In a joint statement on Sunday, alliance leaders said that such barbaric acts — breaking into a house, committing rape, torturing the victim, and circulating the video — are beyond imagination in any civilized society.
They stressed the need for swift and effective action by the government and law enforcement agencies to prevent such horrific incidents. The leaders argued that the lack of effective measures in previous cases of gang rape and violence against women has led to repeated occurrences.
They added that although women showed tremendous courage during the July uprising, they continue to face social harassment and oppression afterward, with no exemplary initiatives from the state or government to stop these crimes.
The statement also noted that while the incident took place on June 26, the public only learned about it after it spread on social media, exposing what they called the government’s failure and the indifference of the administration.
The statement was signed by Ruhin Hossain Prince, central coordinator of the Left Democratic Alliance and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB); Mohammad Shah Alam, President of CPB; Bazlur Rashid Firoz, General Secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (BASAD); Iqbal Kabir Zahid, General Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist League; Masud Rana, central coordinator of BASAD (Marxist); Mosharrafa Mishu, General Secretary of the Democratic Revolutionary Party; and Abdul Ali, Executive President of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh.
