Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman on Wednesday pledged to work relentlessly to meet what he described as the “mountainous expectations” of the people.
Speaking to reporters in front of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs at the Secretariat on his first working day, the minister acknowledged the challenges ahead but reaffirmed his commitment to upholding democracy and ensuring justice.
“We will perform our duties in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives over the past 16 to 17 years for the protection of democracy and the establishment of justice,” he said.
Referring to the party’s electoral manifesto, he said the government would move forward in line with its commitments, with the primary goal of establishing democracy, the rule of law and justice in the country.
He paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the July uprising and during the 1971 Liberation War, saying their spirit would guide the nation’s path forward.
Responding to a question about crimes against humanity, the minister said legal proceedings would continue in accordance with the law.
“The law will take its own course,” he said, adding that any misuse of legal provisions would also be examined.
When asked about the oath-taking of the Constitution Reform Council, he said the party’s spokesperson had already clarified the matter and that he had no further comment to add.
