Labaid Hospital has launched the “Saleha Ahmed Labor Suite”, a specialised facility aimed at encouraging and supporting natural childbirth, with six dedicated beds, the hospital said in a press release.
The new centre, developed by the gynecology department of Labaid Hospital, has been named after Labaid Group Chairperson Saleha Ahmed and is designed to provide comprehensive maternity care from early pregnancy through antenatal services to childbirth, with a focus on normal delivery.
The facility has been established under the supervision of senior gynecologist Major Professor Dr Laila Arjumand Banu (retd), supported by a team of specialist physicians, the release said.

The labour suite was formally inaugurated by Labaid Group Managing Director Dr A M Shamim in the presence of Chairperson Saleha Ahmed through a ribbon and cake-cutting ceremony.
Labaid Group Director Dr Sucharita Ahmed, Labaid Hospital Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Dawood, Head of Operations Iftekhar Ahmed, medical directors, physicians, nurses and other staff members were present at the inauguration.
Professor Dr Laila Arjumand Banu said fear of labour pain has led many women in Bangladesh to opt for caesarean sections, even when there is no medical necessity.
She said the centre aims to reduce fear of natural childbirth by preparing expectant mothers in advance through counselling, training and continuous care, adding that unnecessary caesarean deliveries increase health risks for both mothers and newborns.
The centre will also focus on improving the physical and mental wellbeing of pregnant women and educating them about their responsibilities during pregnancy and childbirth, she said, with the goal of building confidence and promoting safe natural delivery.
