The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has issued arrest warrants against Awami League joint general secretary Md Mahbubul Alam Hanif and three other local party leaders in connection with alleged crimes against humanity during the July uprising in Kushtia last year.
The three-member panel of the tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, accepted the charges on Monday and ordered law enforcement to arrest the accused and present them before the court on 14 October.
The other individuals named in the warrant are Kushtia district Awami League president Sadar Uddin Khan, district secretary Azgar Ali, and Kushtia town unit general secretary Ataur Rahman Khan.
The prosecution formally submitted a charge sheet on Sunday, accusing the four on charge of killing of six individuals during July uprising in Kushtia on 5 August, 2024.
The deceased were identified as Ashraful Islam, Suruj Ali Babu, Abdullah Al Muttakin, Md Usama, Bablu Farazi, and Yusuf Sheikh Shaheed Khan.
