KJ Apa is keen to return to the world of Archie Comics, even if it means stepping into a new role in the upcoming series ‘Afterlife with Archie’.

According to Deadline, the actor, who played Archie Andrews throughout all seven seasons of ‘Riverdale’, has approached the show’s creator and ‘Afterlife with Archie’ showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa about making a cameo in the new adaptation.

Apa told Entertainment Weekly that he would enjoy appearing in the series, although he is unsure which character he might play. He also expressed interest in seeing how the creative team brings the darker version of the Archie universe to television.

Unlike the familiar teenage drama of ‘Riverdale’, ‘Afterlife with Archie’ takes the characters into a horror setting. Based on the comic series by Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla, the story reimagines Riverdale as a town overrun by flesh-eating zombies after a supernatural spell goes wrong.

Disney+ has ordered the hour-long drama, which is scheduled to premiere around Halloween 2027. Aguirre-Sacasa is developing the adaptation with Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television.

Apa’s interest in returning offers a possible link between the new horror series and the earlier television adaptation, although his cameo has not been confirmed.
