A Khulna court has sent a police couple to jail in a case filed over the alleged torture of a domestic help at their residence in the city’s Sonadanga Residential Area.

On Thursday afternoon, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Faruk Iqbal ordered that both accused-Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Popy Mitra and her husband ASI Sanjoy Mitra- be sent to jail custody.

Investigation officer SI Saifur Rahman of Sonadanga Police Station said the duo were produced before court and later taken into custody as per its directive.

He added that Popy Mitra was admitted to the prison cell at the hospital after she fell ill and suffered problems with her right hand.
