The Ministry of Commerce has cancelled the nominations of vice-president candidate Khorshed Alom Khosru and general secretary candidate Shamsul Alom ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association election.
The ministry released a list of 40 valid candidates for the 2026–2028 biennial election on Sunday, July 5. The list did not include the names of Khorshed Alom Khosru and Shamsul Alom, confirming their exclusion from the race.
The authorities also published a separate list of disqualified candidates signed by a joint secretary and a senior assistant secretary. The document explained the reasons behind the cancellation of the two nominations.
Officials cited Clause 18(4) of the Trade Organisation Rules, 2025. The clause states that any individual who serves two consecutive terms in an executive committee or board cannot contest again without completing at least one full-term gap.
Based on this rule, the ministry cancelled the nominations of Khorshed Alom Khosru and Shamsul Alom.
The regulation states, “No person in the executive committee or board of any trade organisation, including federations, shall be eligible to contest elections again without sitting out at least one term after serving two consecutive terms.”
The Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association will hold its long-awaited election on August 8 at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises.
The upcoming vote has revived interest in the film industry after years of delay. Producers, directors, artistes and exhibitors now expect renewed activity and leadership through the new committee.
The last election of the association took place on July 27, 2019. Legal disputes and disagreements over the voter list delayed the process for seven years.
