The 84-year-old Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has taken a temporary break from social media on doctors’ advice to prioritise rest and recovery.
Bachchan apologised to fans and said he had been advised to limit communication while recuperating, according to NDTV.
His decision also highlights why a digital detox can help people overwhelmed by constant notifications, endless scrolling and the pressure to stay updated. Excessive screen time can affect sleep, concentration and emotional well-being, while stepping away from digital devices may help reduce stress and restore focus.
A digital detox does not mean abandoning technology. It involves setting healthy boundaries, such as switching off unnecessary notifications, keeping phones away at bedtime and making time for exercise, hobbies and face-to-face conversations.
Mental health experts note that the effects of social media vary depending on individual habits and circumstances. Although taking a break from screens may support well-being, it cannot replace professional care for persistent anxiety, depression or sleep problems.
Bachchan’s decision offers a timely reminder that staying connected online does not mean being constantly available.
