The nomination of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis candidate Touhidur Rahman Raju has been cancelled during scrutiny.
In the same constituency, the nominations of seven candidates have been declared valid. They are Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader, BNP candidate Shamsuzzaman Samu, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Mahbubur Rahman Belal, Islami Andolon Bangladesh candidate Amiruzzaman Piyal, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BASAD) candidate Abdul Quddus, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis candidate Nur Alam Siddique, and third-gender candidate Anwara Islam Rani.
Rita Rahman, who contested the previous election as a BNP candidate, submitted her nomination as an independent contender after failing to secure party nomination this time.
The returning officer said candidates whose nominations were cancelled would be allowed to file appeals. He also expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of candidates in complying with the electoral code of conduct.
He added that no major allegations or information regarding violations of the code of conduct have been reported so far, noting that executive magistrates are monitoring compliance in the field. All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a credible, fair, and participatory election, he said, seeking cooperation from both voters and candidates.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, nominations of 13 candidates in the Rangpur-1 and Rangpur-2 constituencies were declared valid. In one constituency, the nomination of Jatiya Party candidate Manju Malid was cancelled due to dual citizenship.
