Police arrested a 42-year-old woman along with 140 rounds of cartridges after searching a Dhaka-bound passenger bus in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Monday.
The arrestee has been identified as Swapna Akhter (42), wife of the late Abdus Samad of Badughar area under Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila.
Acting on tip-off information, a team from Raipura Police Station conducted a special drive on the highway at around 4:20am on Monday.
During the operation, law enforcers intercepted and searched a Dhaka-bound Ena Paribahan bus in the Mahmudabad area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, recovering 140 cartridges from passenger Swapna Akhter before taking her into custody.
Md Mujibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipura Police Station, said the woman was sent to a Narsingdi court on Monday afternoon following preliminary interrogation.
A case has been registered with Raipura Police Station in connection with the incident.
Police are currently investigating where the ammunition was sourced from, its intended destination, and whether any accomplices are involved.
