National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s courageous leadership in the anti‑autocracy movement guided the people of the country in achieving democratic rights.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Nahid said, “In the aftermath of the mass uprising of the 1990s, she played an extraordinary role in establishing the parliamentary system in Bangladesh and restoring a democratic environment.”

Throughout her long political career, she endured imprisonment many times and overcame numerous struggles, yet she remained steadfast in her political ideals and in defending the rights of the people. On matters of the country’s sovereignty, she was uncompromising, the NCP leader added.

Khaleda Zia’s contributions and struggles in the fight to establish democracy in Bangladesh will surely be remembered. Her long political life, dedicated to the welfare of the nation and its people, will remain an inspiration for future generations, he said.

He further said, “Today, with her passing, a long and eventful chapter in Bangladesh’s political history has come to an end. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.”

He also prayed to Almighty Allah for the forgiveness of her departed soul and extended his deepest condolences to her bereaved family and countless followers.
