Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said that authorities are making every effort to ensure stability in Khagrachhari and bring the situation to a satisfactory level.

“We are mobilising maximum resources to ensure that no unrest can take hold in Khagrachhari,” he said.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the construction of administrative-cum-barrack buildings for five Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) stations at the Old Ramna Thana Complex in the capital, reports BSS.

The CHT Adviser has held meetings with local leaders and law enforcement agencies to maintain stability in Khagrachhari, where recent unrest left three people dead and several others, including police and military personnel, injured.

Responding to a question about alleged foreign financial and arms support aimed at creating unrest, the Home Adviser did not name any country but said that cohorts of a fallen fascist are attempting to destabilise Khagrachhari. He added that the group is also trying to create chaos nationwide to disrupt the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations, which began on Sunday.

The Home Adviser urged everyone to cooperate to maintain normalcy in Khagrachhari and ensure peaceful and safe Durga Puja festivities.

Turning to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, he noted that the force currently operates 50 police stations, half of which are in rented premises. “We are working to move all police stations into their own buildings,” he added.
