A 16-member delegation from Kenya visited the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) office and key industrial zones in Chattogram from May 3 to May 7, 2026, as part of an exchange program aimed at fostering cooperation in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) development.

The delegation, which included representatives from the Mombasa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), engaged with officials from BEZA to explore Bangladesh’s successful SEZ development model. The visit, organized with the support of JICA Kenya, focused on knowledge exchange surrounding SEZ management, development strategies, and best practices.

Leading the delegation were Kenya Special Economic Zone Authority CEO Kenneth Chelule Langat and Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director William Kipkemboi Rutto. During their visit, they held meetings with BEZA officials, where they were briefed on Bangladesh’s ongoing economic zone projects and the country’s efforts in creating an investment-friendly environment.

BEZA Executive Member for Investment Development Saleh Ahmad chaired the session, highlighting Bangladesh’s initiatives to boost industrialization, enhance infrastructure, improve port connectivity, and attract foreign investment to its economic zones.

As part of the tour, the Kenyan delegation visited the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ) in Narayanganj, the Chattogram Port, and the Chattogram Export Processing Zone. They also had discussions with BEZA about the activities of the Maheshkhali Matarbari Integrated Development Authority, gaining insights into Bangladesh’s industrial infrastructure, port facilities, and investment support services.

BEZA expressed hope that this exchange program will pave the way for enhanced economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Kenya, strengthening the development of SEZs and fostering mutual partnerships for future growth.
