The assassins responsible for the killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant Chandranath Rath remain at large two days after the attack, as incidents of post-election violence continue to surface across West Bengal.
Police have recovered a second motorbike allegedly used by the perpetrators to flee the scene. Another motorbike and a car, both bearing fake registration plates, had already been seized during the investigation, reports The Hindu.
Authorities suspect that local criminal elements may have provided information to the assailants.
c was shot at close range while traveling in a moving car in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas. He sustained three gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene, though no fingerprints were found in the vehicle used by the killers.
CCTV footage from the locality has been recovered and is under examination. Meanwhile, a unit of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been dispatched to Uttar Pradesh to trace potential links of the assailants. Both the ADG CID and the DG of BSF personally inspected the site in the Doharia area of Madhyamgram.
Post-poll violence surges
Crude bomb explosions were reported in Panihati constituency on Thursday, leaving at least five BJP workers injured and receiving medical care.
Panihati, won by Ratna Debnath of the BJP-the mother of RG Kar victim-has seen escalating unrest.
“The blast occurred a short distance from my residence. Two people were severely injured, and a total of seven were admitted to the hospital,” Debnath stated.
Violence has also been reported in Howrah’s Sibpur area, with videos circulating widely on social media. Both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP claim that three party workers from each side have been killed in post-poll clashes.
Arson, vandalism, and street fights have erupted in multiple districts since 4 May, the day election results were announced.
Authorities continue their investigations, vowing to restore order and bring the perpetrators of Chandranath Rath’s murder to justice.
