Malayalam actor Kalyani Priyadarshan is reportedly set to make her Bollywood debut opposite Ranveer Singh in the upcoming post-apocalyptic film Pralay.
According to News 18, the reported casting has already sparked excitement among fans, although the makers are yet to make an official announcement.
According to reports by 123 Telugu and Mid-Day, director Jai Mehta has chosen Kalyani as the female lead.
Ranveer is expected to headline the project, which will also mark his debut as a co-producer under his banner, Maa Kasam Films.
Earlier reports had suggested that Alia Bhatt was attached to the project, but the latest reports indicate that Kalyani is now in consideration for the female lead.
Pralay is expected to be directed by Jai Mehta, son of filmmaker Hansal Mehta.
Jai previously co-directed the acclaimed series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, and the upcoming film will mark his feature directorial debut.
The film is reportedly set in a collapsing world and will use the zombie genre to explore themes of social, emotional and moral breakdown.
According to Mid-Day, the makers plan to present Mumbai as a devastated and almost unrecognisable city.
The visual world is reportedly inspired partly by The Hunger Games, with large physical sets combined with AI-assisted digital extensions.
Sources have claimed that sections of Mumbai will be digitally aged to create the appearance of decay and abandonment.
Filming is expected to begin in Mumbai before the production moves to other locations, with the film reportedly scheduled to go on floors between July and August 2026.
The reported casting comes after Kalyani’s successful run with Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, which released in 2025.
Directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, the Malayalam superhero film combined folklore, fantasy and contemporary storytelling.
Kalyani played Chandra, a mysterious woman who arrives in Bengaluru and becomes involved in an organ trafficking operation before discovering her supernatural connection to the Kerala folklore figure Kalliyankattu Neeli.
The film was praised for its storytelling, action sequences and visual effects and also featured Naslen, Sandy Master and Arun Kurian.
If the reports about Pralay are confirmed, the project will mark Kalyani’s first major Hindi film and pair her with Ranveer in what could be one of Bollywood’s more ambitious entries into the zombie genre.
