Critically ill content creator and actor Kaarina Kaisar has begun a new phase of treatment in Chennai after being transferred to India for advanced medical care linked to severe liver complications.
She is currently receiving treatment at Christian Medical College Hospital in Vellore, where doctors are first focusing on stabilising complications in her lungs before proceeding with a liver transplant.
Kaarina was flown from Dhaka to Chennai by air ambulance at around 11 pm on Monday (May 11). Her mother and two brothers travelled with her, according to her father and former national footballer Kaisar Hamid.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Kaisar Hamid said doctors had already started treatment and were prioritising her respiratory condition.
“Right now, they are trying to stabilise the lung complications first. After that, the liver operation will take place,” he said.
He added that her blood pressure remains stable and that her heart, kidneys and other organs are functioning normally.
Kaisar Hamid also said doctors in Chennai informed the family that Kaarina had earlier been given a high dose of sedatives while undergoing treatment in Bangladesh. According to him, doctors are now working to gradually improve her overall condition while also removing fluid from her lungs.
Preparations for a possible liver transplant are underway, with both of Kaarina’s brothers undergoing blood tests to determine donor compatibility.
“My younger son Sadat Hamid’s blood group matches Kaarina’s. However, blood samples from both of my sons have been taken,” Kaisar Hamid said.
Earlier, the family said they made an urgent decision to move Kaarina abroad after her condition deteriorated rapidly. Kaisar Hamid had also contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding visa arrangements.
“At that time, we felt we did not have much time left and wanted to take her abroad as quickly as possible,” he said previously.
Family members said Kaarina initially developed a fever before doctors later identified an infection. She was subsequently diagnosed with complications caused by Hepatitis A and E, which eventually led to liver failure.
As her condition worsened, she was admitted to the intensive care unit and later placed on life support.
