The BBC has released the first look at Edward Bluemel as Hercule Poirot in Hercule, an upcoming six-part series from Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited.
Filming has begun in Liverpool. The series will offer an intimate portrayal of Poirot while presenting a wider picture of Britain between the two world wars.
Hercule will be based on three of Agatha Christie’s early stories. It will also introduce Poirot to several future friends and allies, as well as a particular nemesis.
Bluemel will be joined by Henry Ashton, James D’Arcy, Calvin Demba, Phil Dunning, Jack Gleeson, Tamsin Greig, James Nesbitt, Guy Remmers, Rebecca Rittenhouse and Mawaan Rizwan.
The series is written by Benji Walters, whose credits include Code of Silence, The Leopard and Obsession. Jonny Campbell will direct the first two episodes, while Chanya Button and Alrick Riley will helm the middle and final two episodes respectively.
Charlie Palmer serves as series producer. The executive producers include Walters and Campbell, James Prichard for Agatha Christie Limited, Rebecca Durbin and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, Nick Lambon for the BBC, and Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar and Stephen Nye for BritBox.
Produced by Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios, and Agatha Christie Limited, the six-part series will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, and on BritBox in North America in 2027.

Poirot is regarded as one of fiction’s most celebrated detectives. Christie’s Poirot novels have sold more than 750 million copies worldwide, attracting readers and viewers for over a century.
